SUNDAY 15:00

The double bass and the piano are a rare duet. For the first time in their respective musical careers, the stage will unite two brilliant Latvian performers who have been highly praised abroad – Berliner Philharmoniker double bassist Gunārs Upatnieks and laureate of the Echo Klassik award, pianist Lauma Skride, presenting a concert program inspired by the Romantic era.

The program selected by the duet will feature German lyricists with Robert Schumann’s expressly melodic Pieces in Folk Style, composed for the cello, a truly Italian double bass repertoire composed by Lombardian Giovanni Bottesini, dubbed the Paganini of Italian double bass, as well as playfully romantic French chamber music in the well-known Sonata in A major by César Franck, which was originally composed for the violin but will be performed as a solo by the heftiest and lowest instrument of the string group, in an arrangement created by Upatnieks himself.
