Until February 2024, the Great Amber Concert Hall will be implementing a project called the Arts Laboratory CirqueMusique. Over the course of the project, musicians and circus artists from Latvia and Norway, together with partners from Iceland and Norway as well as professional Latvian composers, will be creating a mobile interdisciplinary musical performance with circus and choreography elements for youth audiences.
One of the main activities of the project are creative workshops, or ateliers, which will take place in 2023. The workshops will gather students from four regional music schools and other young people aged 12 to 18 to attend music and circus classes and participate in the creative process. Guided by professional musicians and composers, participants will learn performing skills and expand their experience of perceiving art with circus artists. The project will encourage the growth of young art professionals to promote their understanding of contemporary performing work, as well as contribute to the creation and regional involvement of valuable artistic content for youth audiences.
In the spring and fall of 2023, the team of the CirqueMusique project, implemented by the Great Amber Concert Hall, went to four Latvian concert halls, in Rēzekne, Cēsis, Liepāja, and Ventspils, to lead four creative workshops. At each of them, musicians, composers, and circus performers worked with youth aged 12 to 18 to experiment through a combination of contemporary music and modern circus. The documentary shows the creative process and participants’ thoughts. The film was created as part of the CirqueMusique international project, implemented by the Great Amber Concert Hall with partners from Norway and Iceland. The project is supported by European Economic Area (EEA) grants.
