Liepāja Concert Hall Great Amber is a multifunctional art center of national and European significance, hosting a broad spectrum of contemporary culture services including art events in various genres representing Latvian and foreign professional arts, music, dance, visual and new media arts. The Concert Hall maintains the availability of professional art in the region, thus promoting intellectual pastime activities and the education of the public.

Since its opening in 2015, the Concert Hall has been managed by municipality capital company SIA “Lielais Dzintars”, which ensures the economic activity of the Concert Hall, building maintenance, premise lease for public and private events, and creating part of the repertoire of the Concert Hall.

Concert Hall Great Amber ensures the fulfillment of high-quality art events of various genres and educational events in an up-to-date infrastructure, thus promoting the education of the public and availability of culture for locals.

The series The World inside Great Amber gives listeners an opportunity to enjoy performances by the most brilliant representatives of world music

The chamber music series Personally focuses on an intimate, serene and informal atmosphere, offering small format stage works by local or foreign artists and post-concert conversations with artists

Short-term rent

Various rooms are offered for short-term rent, equipped for organizing music, art, corporate, training events, seminars and interest-related education events: the Great Hall, Chamber Hall, art space Civita Nova, Civita Nova 6 and the vestibule space. Sound recording studio

The Great Amber offers professional equipment for recording acoustic music not only for orchestras but also for solo and chamber music performers. A full recording service is provided in collaboration with the best Latvian specialists – from sound design to mixing and mastering of the recorded audio material. Several critically-acclaimed recordings of academic music have been made at the Concert Hall recording studio.

Video studio

In 2021, thanks to purchased robot cameras and additional technical equipment, Liepāja Concert Hall Great Amber became the first digital concert hall in Latvia.

Interesting facts about Great Amber

200+ events

Each year, the Concert Hall hosts over 200 various music, arts and corporate events, and it is annually visited by more than 200 thousand people from all over Latvia and the globe.

~400 people

On average, around 400 people are in the Concert Hall, since the Great Amber is home to the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, the Liepāja Music, Art and Design School, the Concert Hall manager SIA “Lielais Dzintars”, and it also hosts the small auditorium of the Liepāja Theater and café/restaurant Čello.

In the fall of 2020, the Concert Hall celebrated five years since its opening. During its five years, the Concert Hall has held 1021 events, and the total number of visitors during this period reached 1.2 million.

In terms of square footage, the Concert Hall is as large as 7 football fields, 11 basketball courts, or 54 tennis courts.

8600+ tons

900 tons of metal and 11 thousand cubic meters of concrete were used in the construction of the Great Amber.

4500 m2 glass

The glass facade is made up of 3000 glass plates, each a different shape to form a round silhouette. The total area of the glass facade is 4500 square meters.

2 years

The grandiose eight-story building of the Concert Hall was erected over a short period of only two years.

<10% regular angles

Straight walls and regular angles are only present at the core of the building, its middle section with elevators and emergency shafts, whereas the rest of the walls are irregular, and builders were up to the challenge of constructing them at various angles.
