Appassionante is an Italian musical trio consisting of Giorgia Villa (Lazio), Mara Tanchis (Sardegna) and Stefania Francabandiera (Puglia). They are recognized worldwide as the first all-female group performing in the operatic pop-crossover genre.

The group was founded in Rome in 2006 on the initiative of producer Mauro Borzellino and his label Overlook Italia. The aim was to create a crossover between classical and pop music performed by three Mediterranean women — professional opera singers. This blend of lyrical and light music immediately attracted enormous attention: from the very beginning, the singers started performing at numerous festivals and events, embarking on successful tours across Italy and around the world, captivating audiences with their uniqueness and originality.

Thanks to the collaboration between Overlook Italia and major German media companies, the Appassionante project reached a new level, resulting in the release of their first album titled Appassionante across Europe and beyond. The success was immediate, and the group began actively performing live, including on television shows on leading channels in Italy and worldwide. Giving more than 100 concerts a year, the artists toured the globe, performing both at open-air venues and in prestigious theatres.

A distinctive feature of their style, which has brought them international fame, is a powerful element of “italianness”. Their deep roots in Italian operatic culture and their ability to combine tradition with modernity — reinterpreting opera arias (even those originally written for tenors or baritones) — have allowed them to masterfully and expressively unite two beloved genres: opera and popular music.
Another important characteristic of the group is the universality of their repertoire: they sing in many languages (and dialects), including Italian, Neapolitan, English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew and Latin.

In 2010, they became the face of the airline Airberlin, for which they recorded the song “Wings”. It became a global video slogan and in 2011 was included in the compilation Passion released by Warner Music.
