Concert series PERSONALLY
In the history of music, no other family has left a mark like the Bachs, with almost three centuries worth of valuable creative work produced by the family’s men.
One can easily get confused, as the first name Johann is shared by ten of them, and at least seven were exceptional organists! We might as well start with a story: once upon a time, there lived Johann Michael (not the first one in the Bach family, but chronologically the first in our concert program), who was a cousin to Johann Sebastian, the father of whose first wife was the same Johann M., and…
Today, the most famous and well-known of the family is, of course, Johann Sebastian Bach, but equally important and bold strides in the transition to Classicism in music were made by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Instrumental music opuses, sacred and secular vocal music from the Baroque to the Classical period in music – such is the vast variety of the creative heritage of this family, which is well worth introducing to modern audiences as well.
The ensemble Džezbaroks will explore and experiment with a program of the famous German Bach family – beautiful melodies, perhaps less familiar to Latvian audiences, and an interpretation of the brilliant Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach in charming jazz Baroque improvisations.
