Every year at the end of September, the Liepāja Great Amber Concert Hall invites us to escape the mundane and join a party that brings together unique artists of contemporary music. This year, it will be a threefold celebration of pulse, rhythm, and audiovisual technology. We will meet Liepāja artist duo Šūna⋅2, internationally acclaimed electronica tandem Domenique Dumont, and master of sound synthesis Platons Buravickis.
Šūna⋅2, a collaboration between Elza Zīverte and Kaspars Jaudzems, creates audiovisual movement performances where Elza works with sound and movement improvisation and Kaspars combines sound and visualization. The night will be opened by the artists' performance ‘heart ∙ ∙ beat’, where digital wireless sensors will track the activity of the body and the heart. The obtained data will be converted into sound and image. There is no scenario – only a free interaction between the artists, as Elza gives into an improvised choreography while Kaspars creates music and video from the live data.
Next on stage – Latvian duo Domenique Dumont, who have gained a wide global audience over the past ten years. Nearly half a million listeners stream the duet's music on Spotify each month. Earlier this summer, Dominique Dumont's fourth album Deux Paradis was released under Antinote in Paris, and it has not only received wide recognition in Latvia, but is also featured on radio stations and DJ sets in other countries.
Domenique Dumont – singer Anete Stuce and multi-instrumentalist Artūrs Liepiņš – feel at home in the Francophone space. Their lyrics are universal and unrestricted by the present, and the kind, yet persistent pulse of the duo never fails to capture and mesmerize the listener. It is dance and life, it is melancholy, fiction, and myth.
At the end of the party, we will experience the return of contemporary classical music composer, pianist and improviser Platons Buravickis at the Great Amber with his new piece Neurotic Vibrations, which was composed for this event. Platons says: ‘Despite the desire to become more and more machine-like, man remains weak inside. This weakness requires an outlet, and the form of romantic feelings is much better than any alternative.’ A harsh romantic himself, Platons Buravickis knows what he is talking about. He is a destroyer, synthesizer, sculptor of sound, master of space, daredevil in art and, at the same time, a hyper-sensitive explorer of the deepest, most authentic emotions. We can't wait for the pulse of his neurotic vibrations!
