OPENING OF THE BALTIC CONTEMPORARY DESIGN EXHIBITION TACTILE BALTICS

16. JULY 17.00

Wednesday
2025

On July 16 at 5:00 PM, everyone interested is invited to the opening of the exhibition in the art space "Civita Nova" at the "Great Amber" concert hall. The internationally acclaimed Baltic contemporary design exhibition "Tactile Baltics" will be on display.

Following its outstanding success at Milan Design Week, where the exhibition was included in the prestigious MoscaPartners curatorial program, Tactile Baltics will be on display in Latvia for the first time. The exhibition in Liepāja is the largest exhibition in Latvia dedicated to contemporary Baltic design to date, featuring 19 designers from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

‘It is a great honor for us that Liepāja and the Great Amber Concert Hall have been chosen as the first location in Latvia where these highly appreciated pieces will be displayed. The contemporary and ascetic architecture of the Concert Hall's art space is an ideal platform for highlighting the creativity of Baltic designers,’ says Timurs Tomsons, Chairperson of the Board of the Great Amber Concert Hall.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the latest trends in contemporary Baltic design, highlighting the special sensitivity of the region's designers towards an interaction between material, form, function, and storytelling, often rooted in local cultural heritage and identity. Viewers are invited to experience how contemporary design combines traditional craftsmanship and innovative technologies to create collectible pieces of furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics, and interior design with strong tactile and emotional presence.

‘This exhibition offers a glimpse into the soul of Baltic design – it is an intimate encounter with the language of design, rooted in the sensitivity of materials, form, and storytelling. The exhibition highlights a new generation of designers who explore identity, ecology, and cultural heritage in a personal and deeply felt way,’ says Dita Danosa, project lead of Tactile Baltics and Director of the Latvian Design Centre.

The content and visual concept of the exhibition in Liepāja corresponds to that presented in Milan, preserving the selection of works, the overall setting, and visual rhythm, which has been adapted to the ambiance of the art space of the Great Amber Concert Hall.

About Tactile Baltics

Tactile Baltics is a curatorial platform started in 2020 between three design organizations in Baltic countries – NID, Latvian Design Centre, and Lithuanian Design Forum – with the aim of representing and promoting contemporary Baltic design internationally. Since its creation, the platform has implemented three internationally recognized events: at the London Design Festival in 2021, at Milan Design Week in April 2025, and at the Pacai Gallery in Vilnius in May and June of 2025.

At Milan Design Week, the world’s largest design event, Tactile Baltics was part of the prestigious curatorial program Variations by MoscaPartners at the Palazzo Litta, attracting over 52 000 visitors and extensive attention from international press. The first Tactile Baltics exhibition in our region took place in Vilnius, in cooperation with Hotel Pacai and Range Rover, introducing a wider local audience to the contemporary design of the Baltic States.

The exhibition at the Great Amber Concert Hall will be available free of charge, thus inviting the inhabitants and visitors of Liepāja to explore the diversity and quality of contemporary Baltic design.
