Cinema, magic or both?
Screens that create a sense of depth placed on stage one after the other: it is not entirely clear on which of the screens the picture is projected. Three lively musicians, a joker and a video artist invite the viewers to explore the wonderful world of Georges Méliès (1861-1938) a pioneer of cinema. This genius was extraordinary and many-sided: a one man orchestra, illusionist, script writer, producer, illustrator, mechanic and of course a film director. It was he who entered the movie industry after spending time in show-business and created the first special effects in cinema history.
Ten short films projected during the concert create an optical illusion, pushing fantastic adventures into the foreground. The excitement and quick wit of Méliès is reanimated into the music score, which is something between jazz and Freestyle. The artist performing the video concert, gets enjoyment out of travelling the naive but colourful world.
Georges Méliès would definitely like this modern party!
