‘I write music, and I want people to listen to it and care about it and have it make some difference in their lives. When I’m fortunate for that to happen, then of course, I feel very, very good about it.’

This was said by New Yorker, American composer Steve Reich, who is celebrating ninety years this fall. The Liepāja Art Forum is preparing a greeting for the maestro, a visual passage of dance, movement, and chamber music – an experience created in collaboration between choreographer Artūrs Nīgalis and dancers, artist Kaspars Podnieks, musicians, and attendees. A number of the composer’s pieces, especially early works, will be performed in Latvia for the first time. The Reich Passage will feature ‘Pendulum Music’, ‘My name is…’, and ‘It’s Gonna Rain’, as well as ‘Vermont Counterpoint’, ‘Four Organs’, ‘Clapping Music’, and ‘Music for Pieces of Wood’.
