CLEOPATRA. THE RULER IN BAROQUE LIGHT

24. JANUARY 18.00

2026

Biļetes no: 15 €

The mysterious, feminine, and powerful character of Cleopatra has served as a source of inspiration to artists from the Baroque era to modern pop culture. The image of this culturally significant ruler is embodied in numerous Baroque interpretations, which will be presented in a diverse program by the internationally renowned Baroque orchestra La Folia Barockorchester together with the outstanding soprano Regula Mühlemann.

The concert will feature Baroque arias from the collaboration album of La Folia Barockorchester and Regula Mühlemann, Cleopatra – Baroque Arias (2017), for which the soloist received the Opus Klassik Award as Newcomer of the Year in 2018. These interpretations have also earned the praise of many music critics.

‘Mühlemann's seemingly effortless virtuosity is displayed admirably in Graun's ‘Tra le procelle assorto’, whereas her melodic singing in Handel's ‘Se pietà’ is as profoundly moving as any of the most distinguished sopranos to have tackled it on disc,’ writes Gramophone Magazine.

BBC Music Magazine writes: ‘Mühlemann makes everything sound easy. But it's not just virtuosity, as the beauty of her voice also stops you in your tracks.’

Along with famous arias by Georg Frideric Handel and Johann Adolf Hasse, the program will feature valuable gems from the works of Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni Legrenzi, and Antonio Vivaldi.

Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann is one of the brightest opera and concert artists of her generation, widely recognized for her crystal-clear voice and sensual interpretations. Audiences and critics alike have highly appreciated her in various roles at the Vienna State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, and the Salzburg Festival. In the 2024/2025 season, she performed with such collectives as the Kammerorchester Basel, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Utopia Orchestra with Teodor Currentzis, and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, with which the singer debuted Beethoven's ‘Missa Solemnis’ and continues performing Strauss's and Mahler's works in the most prestigious European halls. Regula Mühlemann is an exclusive artist of Sony Classical, and her records, including Cleopatra, Mozart II, and Fairy Tales, have received several Opus Klassik awards.

Since its foundation in 2007, La Folia Barockorchester have set a new bar for Baroque music, injecting it with fierceness and exhilaration. At the same time, the Orchestra's interpretations show a deep respect for the historical material and a desire to reveal Baroque-era emotions to the contemporary listener. The Orchestra regularly performs in prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonics, the Musikverein in Vienna, various international festivals, and enjoys collaborations with notable soloists such as Regula Mühlemann, Anna Prohaska, Bejun Mehta, and others. The Orchestra's records under Deutsche Harmonia Mundi/Sony have gained them high praise, including an Opus Klassik Award.
