The sincere and serene music, which cleanses and exhilarates the soul, is perfect for this time, as it harmoniously vibrates sublime feelings in every person. The concert “Christmas songs” gathers beautiful pieces, composed by native and foreign authors, in which sacred and folk traditions, which have existed in Europe alongside for centuries, organically interact.
The concert revolves around song cycles of two British composers - Benjamin Britten (1913 – 1976) and John Rutter (1945) – for the female voices and harp. These song cycles have gained a wide recognition from the audience for their unique beautiful, virtuoso and colorful music. Alongside with Britten and Rutter’s music you will hear songs by Latvian choral classic Jāzeps Vītols, “Mary songs”, composed specially for the vocal band “Putni” and Ekaterina Suvorova by the Swedish composer Håkan Sundin as well as songs composed by Silvija Silava.
