LIEPAJA ART FORUM: #KarostaWaterTowerProject Contemporary Art Exhibition opening

6. AUGUST 16.00

Sunday
2017

#KarostaWaterTowerProject will bring together ten artists from various disciplines and countries invited by the Dutch interdisciplinary artist Edd Schouten to explore the specific qualities of the water tower through art.

By creating structures, scores and other creative strategies, the group will engage each other and see how they can collaborate with the tower. It is the process that is the artwork, a type of choreography where the artists and their interactions are the moving bodies in the space of the Karosta Water Tower for a specific period of time. What might result are interventions that enhance, liberate or memorialize the Karosta Water Tower and from August 6th onwards the space will be open for the public to experience the results of this interaction. While the space is open for the public, the artists will remain present in order to exchange experiences with the visitors and to continue the process that was initiated before the opening.

Participants: outside of Edd Schouten, the following artists have been invited to join the temporary community in the Karosta Water Tower: photographer and book designer Inga Erdmane (LV); photographer and beer brewer Valdis Jansons (LV); dance artists Katja Cheraneva (RU) and Matteo Marchesi (IT); art organizer and curator Liga Lindenbauma (LV); visual artists Debbie Young (GB), Laura Prikule (LV) and Eva Vevere (LV); sonologist Ernests Vilsons (LV); and, singer and sound artist Marialouisa Capurso (IT).

Project coordinator – artist Kaspars Lielgalvis (the head of the Totaldobže Art Centre), curator – artist and choreographer Edd Schouten.

Totaldobže Art Centre has a history of bringing together artists for process driven collaborations especially in the form of their "Black Holes Workshops" which have been held in several countries since 2010. One of the participants of previous workshops is Edd Schouten, a The Hague based interdisciplinary artist and choreographer. Schouten's appreciation for unconventional approaches to the artistic process makes him a perfect candidate to tackle a project specifically designed for the unique space of the Karosta Water Tower and this inspired Totaldobže to invite him to do so.
