Textile is warm. Textile is coziness. Textile is a diverse language used to tell stories and experience emotions. It's a conversation. With us, and within oneself.

We invite you to feel and experience it.

Textile has long been a symbol for coziness. With its sensitive materiality, it provides a space not only with rich colors and textures, but emotional warmth as well. Apart from the functional roles of textile, it has proven its value and self-sufficiency as an important medium for art. Due to various techniques, materiality and adaptability, textile is a useful medium in expressing creative ideas and messages, as it is able to satisfy almost any of the artist’s wishes. Textile is an excellent ally in both private and public spaces as a diverse material with a great variety of texture and techniques, as well as its ability to embody color in a uniquely expressive way. Textile creates and maintains conversation.

Art in public spaces is an essential prerequisite for communication, while textile also creates coziness. Therefore, the students and teachers of the Department of Textile Art at the Art Academy of Latvia have created the exhibition “Laika Pietura” (A Stop in Time) for the public space of the Concert Hall. Textiles inhabit the central wall of the community space of the Concert Hall, creating a unified image, as well as telling individual stories of almost twenty artists about significant stops in their lives – like a certain period of life, or the artist’s feelings and reflections.

Taking into account the specifics of the exhibition within the space, it only features two-dimensional artworks, which is merely a fraction of what textiles students learn at the AAL. The works displayed were created using various techniques: classical tapestry, jacquard tapestry, wool felting, tufting, embroidery, and original media.
