For the first time Liepāja Theatre announces a new international theatre festival "Theatre in Close-Up". Starting from this year it will become as an annual event. The program includes theatre productions from countries in the Baltic Sea region as well as discussions about theatre, events for children, play readings etc. The main goal is to introduce spectators with the processes of theatre and to provide professionals and theatre lovers with time and space to reflect on the artistic processes and challenges in theatre. The festival will take place from 21st to 24th of August featuring five international performances from Finland, Lithuania, Poland, as well as one production by Liepāja Theatre.
Last year, for the first time, Liepāja Theatre hosted an event featuring directing sketches and play readings, where audiences had the opportunity to see scenes from productions envisioned by emerging directors, performed by professional actors, and to hear excerpts from new plays created during summer playwriting residencies. This year, the tradition continues as part of the festival – audiences can look forward to meeting new directors and playwrights.
