Concert series PERSONALLY

Skilled vocalist and versatile singer Viktorija Majore and experienced pianist Herta Hansena invite listeners to join an afternoon of chamber music filled with emotionally rich poetry, an atmosphere of the Romantic era, and the fragile ornaments of Kurtág’s era.

The musicians are honoring the living Hungarian legend György Kurtág on the centenary of his birth by creating a program for the Great Amber that, in collaboration with narrator Orests Silabriedis, includes treasures of various centuries and arts.

We will hear seven of Kurtág’s compositions for soprano and piano revealing a person’s inner world through poetry by Hungarian classic Amy Károlyi and a touch of haiku, as well his internationally-acclaimed Eight Piano Pieces, Op. 3. The program also includes other composers’ work that has been significant for Kurtág: solo pieces by Robert Schumann and Richard Strauss, Claudio Monteverdi’s masterpiece ‘Lamento della ninfa’, and the phenomenon of poet Friedrich Hölderlin’s solitude at the Hölderlinturm on the Neckar riverfront.

We will also hear Arturs Maskats’ dedication to Viktorija’s vocals, as well as vocalizations created by the singer herself.

Artists:
Viktorija Majore – soprano
Herta Hansena – piano
Orests Silabriedis – narrator

As with all concerts of the series Personally, the audience will be able to meet the musicians after the concert to enjoy informal conversations about their creative paths, sources of inspiration, and challenges, in the 2nd floor gallery.
