Easy Money. Real Consequences

3. JUNE 13.00

Wednesday
2026

How easy is it to fall for a seemingly innocent job or income offer online? How often do promises of quick and easy money hide fraudulent schemes in which people become unwitting accomplices? And why are young people especially prone to facing these risks?

At the event “Easy Money. Real Consequences,” the results of a social experiment implemented in cooperation with the Liepāja Municipal Police and the development platform YOU+ within the framework of the “CITISENSE” project will be presented. During the experiment, various fake job and income offers were created on social media to study how easily young people respond to suspicious offers and what methods scammers most commonly use to attract potential victims.

During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to learn how the experiment was designed, how communication with the participants took place, and what the obtained results were. It will be revealed how many people responded to the offers, what their reactions were, and what trends can be observed in the youth digital environment. Additionally, the mechanics of so-called “money mule” schemes, the consequences they can bring, and ways to protect oneself from becoming involved in financial crimes will be explained.

The event will be of interest to young people, parents, educators, and anyone who uses social media and digital platforms on a daily basis. In addition to the presentation, interactive activities are also planned.

For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the event will also be available.
