The concert will feature the competition winners—who received the highest scores from the jury—performing as soloists alongside the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, with Atvars Lakstīgala conducting. For these young musicians, this will be a significant stage experience, allowing them to gain valuable experience as soloists and to experience musical collaboration with a symphony orchestra. For the audience, the concert will offer an opportunity to get to know a new generation of musicians who may shape not only Latvia’s but also the international academic music scene in the future.
The evening’s special guest will be double bassist Matīss Eisaks, a graduate of the Emīls Melngailis Liepāja Music High School and winner of four international double bass solo competitions, having taken first place at the Stockholm International Performers’ Competition (2014), first place at the International Double Bass Symposium in Wrocław (2016), first place at the František Simandl Double Bass Competition in Blatná (2016), and first place at the 24th International Leoš Janáček Competition (2018). He has performed with world-renowned ensembles, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Dresden Philharmonic. Currently, he is a member of the Weimar State Orchestra and one of the most prominent Latvian double bassists of his generation.
