"Music, Art and Design Days 2026" will be held in Liepāja

05. JUNE

2026

At the end of the academic year, the Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School (LMMDV) — will traditionally organize a series of events called 'Music, Art and Design Days'. This year, the events will kick off with various activities on June 5 and will continue throughout the summer. The aim of these events is to introduce the wider public to the graduation projects of the school's graduates, offering an insight into the professional performance of young musicians, artists, and designers, while allowing the audience to appreciate the fruits of four years of work in an open, public space.

The event program from June 5 to 16 will kick off with public qualification concerts and exams by the music program graduates:
June 5 at 12:00 | Great Amber Concert Hall (Chamber Hall) Keyboard Instruments – Accordion Performance
June 9 at 14:00 | Liepāja State Gymnasium Assembly Hall  Conducting
June 10 at 13:00 | LMMDV Chamber Hall (Ausekļa iela 11/15) Music History and Theory
June 15 | Great Amber Concert Hall

Immediately following these events, the qualification exams in art and design will take place from June 16 to 18. Coinciding with the start of these exams, the Graduation Project Exhibition will open on June 16. For the very first time, the exhibition will be held at the school's main building at Alejas iela 18.

While other events conclude in June, this exhibition will remain open to visitors in two stages:
Stage 1: From the opening on June 16 until July 10 inclusive (concluding on the day of the school's grand alumni reunion—the central event of this anniversary year).
Stage 2: After a short break, the exhibition will reopen from July 29 to August 28.
During the exhibition, the entire school building—including drawing and painting studios, as well as department rooms—will be transformed into a single, unified exhibition gallery, allowing visitors to experience the school's creative atmosphere firsthand.

The central highlight of the "Music, Art and Design Days" is the traditional Fashion Show, taking place on June 17 at 18:00 in the Great Hall of the "Great Amber" Concert Hall.
This year, the concept and visual identity of the fashion show vividly embody the synergy of the school's three main directions—music, art, and design. This interdisciplinary connection will be felt throughout the performance itself, as young musicians join the fashion collections on stage as full participants in the show.
The performance will feature students from the classical and jazz departments, coming together to form a grand 21-piece orchestra. They will perform a program specially created for this event, featuring a collaboration with DJ Elvis Zants.

This year's program holds special significance as the school celebrates three historic milestones in 2026:
104 years since the founding of the Emilis Melngailis Liepāja Music School;
100 years since the founding of the Liepāja Art School;
10 years since the merger of the schools into the Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School (LMMDV).

The events are supported by the "Kurzeme Creative Industries Development Centre" association and the State Culture Capital Foundation.
