On the evening of July 17, the Concert Hall “Great Amber” welcomed its audience—residents of Liepāja and visitors to the city—to an open-air musical picnic held opposite the concert hall’s main entrance. Thanks to the support of the Uniting Foundation and the Development Association of Liepāja Concert Hall Great Amber, chamber ensembles from the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and other musical guests delighted the crowd with music of various genres from the concert hall’s terrace overlooking the city.

Comfortably settled on a blanket on the lawn with snacks they’d brought along, or seated at tables in the park, the audience enjoyed nearly two hours of diverse performances in a relaxed atmosphere, accompanied by classical masterpieces, the passionately romantic rhythms of tango, and well-known songs that everyone wanted to sing along to.

The “Liepāja Horn Quartet” opened the musical program with a lively performance, performing popular opera arias by Giuseppe Verdi, a cozy Ländler, a song about Edelweiss, and a tribute to Liepāja’s 300th anniversary by Hans Hohapfel, a once-prominent bandmaster in Liepāja. Next, accordionist Artūrs Noviks and the ensemble “Sunset Strings” invited the audience to experience the thrilling world of tango, performing both the fiery compositions of Argentine genius Astor Piazzolla and our very own Margers Zariņš’s hit “Pie bagātās kundzes.”

The ensemble “Sonore Antiqua” offered a glimpse into the splendor and intricate ornamentation of the Baroque era, followed by the powerful percussion rhythms of “Trio per uno,” featuring musicians Marta Kauliņa-Pelnēna, Reinis Tomiņš, and Matīss Skarēvičs. To conclude the concert, the “Rietumkrasta Trio” took the stage on the terrace, performing well-known songs by Goran Gora, Kārlis Kazāks, Māra Upmane-Holšteine, “The Sound Poets,” and Ainārs Mielavs, inviting everyone to sing along.

During the event, the youngest visitors and young people took part in a variety of creative activities organized by the “YOU+ Development Platform”—coloring coloring pages, making bookmarks, and participating in various games and activities.
