This summer concert hall Great Amber (Lielais Dzintars) s in Liepāja will present the opera La Boheme by the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini with  brilliant soprano Maija Kovaļevska in the title role.

On Saturday, 15 July, at 18.00, concert hall Lielais Dzintars in Liepāja will present the opera "La Bohème" by the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini with the world-renowned soprano MAIJA KOVAĻEVSKA (Mimi) in the title role. The role of Mimì has become a shining calling card for the outstanding Latvian soprano in the world's greatest opera houses - it has been sung at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London.

"The world's best tenor, Jonas Kaufmann, when he organised his  benefice performance,  invited Maija to be  his partner for the role of Mimi. If he is the world's first tenor, then I can say that Maija is the world's first Mimi", said Dainis Kalns, the organiser of the Sigulda Opera Music Festival last summer.

"La Boheme is considered one of Giacomo Puccini's (1858-1924) finest works and one of the most romantic operas of all time. "The protagonists of La bohème are typical Parisians of the late 19th century: the poet Rudolph, the musician Chaunard, the philosopher Colin and the artist Marcel. Mimi, a silk embroiderer, enters the friends' poor but youthfully uncouth everyday life. But the girl's fate is already sealed - not even Rudolf's love can save her...

The production will also feature another brilliant opera gem - Bulgarian tenor Mihail Mihailov, often compared to the great Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti. The soloists of the Latvian National Opera - Jānis Apeinis, Marlēna Keine, Rihards Mačanovskis, Krišjānis Norvelis, Andris Lapiņš, Kalvis Kalniņš and Viesturs Vītols - will also take part in the performance. The production is directed by Edmunds Freibergs, with Vladimir Kiradžijevs (Vienna) at the conductor's chair.
