Concert series PERSONALLY

The top virtuoso of the Latvian ethnic instrument kokle Laima Jansone and the talented Lithuanian multi-instrumentalist Saulius Petreikis are united by their skill of contemporizing ancient melodies. In celebration of the rich heritage of Baltic traditional culture, the musicians invite listeners to enjoy a concert program filled with the presence of nature and the mythical, presenting motifs of Latvian and Lithuanian folklore, lullabies and improvisations.

Laima Jansone combines early performance techniques with thrilling innovation and has thus forged her own path in playing the traditional instrument of kokle. In her music, she creates an exclusive sonic world, where the sounds of authentic and electric kokle merge with improvisations and various effects. Each performance by the kokle player is unique, a surprise and adventure for the audience and stage partners alike. In the upcoming concert, Laima will play various kokles, thus creating space for interaction between pace, impulsivity, serenity and deep introspection.

Saulius Petreikis is one of the few European instrumentalists who can play around 50 various woodwind instruments, which he has collected from all around the world, including ancient Baltic music instruments. The musician will present his mastery in performing traditional and academic brass and woodwind instruments – trumpet, duduk, bansuri, various horns, lur (ancient Scandinavian blowing horn), wooden trumpet, ney, and others.

As with all concerts of the series Personally, the audience will be able to meet the musicians after the concert to enjoy informal conversations about their creative paths, sources of inspiration, and challenges, in the 2nd floor gallery. Post-performance conversations are supported by the retail chain “SPAR Latvija”.
