Trio Surel, Segal & Gubitsch
We will open this year’s Liepāja Art Forum with a powerful concert by three artists from France – the virtuoso trio Surel, Segal & Gubitsch. The opening concert of the Festival will be like an intimate, touching night of salon music to remind of a romantic world where music and art was enjoyed among friends in the living room of a home. In their program, musicians will reveal an exciting journey across the world of musical genres, from tango to sound experiments!
The charming and eclectic trio Surel, Segal & Gubitsch unites three unique characters and voices – the violin of Sébastien, the cello of Vincent and the electric guitar of Tomás. Onstage, the brilliant musicians will sail between written scores and improvisations and navigate between many musical continents, plunging us into the subtlety and the intensity of their common language of sound.
The concert program will feature musical improvisations as well as works from the Trio’s debut album, Camara Pop. It includes original pieces composed by the musicians themselves inspired by modern tango, as well as arrangements of Brazilian jazz and French classical music. An arrangement of French trip-hop artists Bumcello’ Changing Everything will add groove to this night of colorful emotions.
Trio Surel, Segal & Gubitsch was formed in 2014 and unites the soundscapes of violinist Sébastien Surel, cellist Vincent Ségal, and master of the electric guitar Tomás Gubitsch, to present their common vision and highlight their differences and individuality as well. Hearing them perform creates a certainty that their seemingly accidental meeting was actually predestined. The ensemble mainly performs their own original music, but their repertoire also includes arrangements of works by Thelonious Monk, Hermeto Pascoal, and Charlie Chaplin.
