Liepāja Art Forum
The internationally acclaimed Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth from the USA expand the potential of the human voice, specializing mainly on dedicated concert programs by contemporary composers. They are known for their exceptionally skillful and extensive mastery of vocal techniques. At the Liepāja Art Forum, the collective will perform fantastic contemporary American vocal music created by three amazing female composers, Caroline Shaw, Missy Mazzoli, and Angélica Negrón.
This will be the first performance of the songs from the program in Latvia, and they will follow a story about what we lose and gain with words – the deconstruction of language and its restoration through structure and text. Layered vocals and lyrics simmer, fuse, play with emotions, and the human voice becomes a boundless palette of colors!
The ensemble Roomful of Teeth was established in 2009, when the members were studying with brilliant singers and teachers at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and discovered that the limitations of human vocals can be challenged. The ensemble unites 12 professional singers who are continuously expanding their repertoire in collaboration with the most prominent modern composers and a wide array of artists and ensembles, covering various genres and art forms.
